Operational stations are part of the recommended architecture. These units enable the operators to interact with the functional unit in various situations. Operators access the system features in various ways, including special controls providing direct access, and through dedicated stations.
Station design should consider the failure modes described in the failure model ... and provide defenses against these modes, as follows:
Failure mode | Failure source | Defense |
Operator's slip | Slip-prone design
|
Slip prevention |
Mode confusion | Situation-independent interaction style | Situation-dependent interaction style |
Unnoticed alarm | Insufficient attention | Alert design |
Missed alarm | Alarm fatigue: | Alarm quality:
|
Mistake, omission | Confusion (
sources) Routine-oriented interaction style |
Confusion prevention |
The recommended architecture inspires different interaction styles, for managing the interaction in primary, exceptional and emergency operation.
A different style is used for operating the Supervisor station .
