Nuisance alarms

Definition

A nuisance alarm is an instance of repeated warning about an actual hazard, of which the operators are already aware.

Example - reminders

Typically, after the operator acknowledge perceiving an alarm, it changes to a reminder. If the reminder signal is intrusive, the operators might not perform well with their main tasks.

Guideline

The operators should not be disturbed by reminder signals. Rather, reminders should be passive, indicative.
