Style guides may be double-edged swords. Depending on how we use them, they can either improve or hamper the user interface.

They imply that context dependent controls should be protected from operational errors; for example, by disabling risky controls, by showing the users the possible implications of their actions, and by asking them to confirm their actions.
Another aspect of the human errors issues concerns the function activation dilemma. Users cannot avoid the wrong activation of context-dependent controls.
