The risks of ignorable alarms

If the operators are busy doing high priority tasks, they are likely to forget about the alarm situation.

Example

In response to a medical alarm a member of the medical team muted it, to avoid distraction during the treatment. Later, when they finished with the treatment, they did not reactivate it, in order to avoid the nuisance. Thereof, they did not notice that the patient situation deteriorated.
