Defenses

Proactive resilience assurance is achieved by defining seven protection layers ( PL ...), including four preventive defenses and three operational defenses. Each of the defenses consists of special means to avoid failure. Each of them provides certain protection, however, none of them can guarantee full protection.

Preventive defenses

Defenses of which the operators should not be aware

• Firewalls : hazard prevention ( PL1) and escalation prevention ( PL4)
• PL6 - Proactive testing
• PL7 - Reactive development.

Operational defenses

Facilitators, affecting the operator's effectiveness, according to the primary hazard model ... ::

• Rebounding (PL2) from a hazard,
• Recovery ( PL3) from exceptional situations and
• Rescue ( PL5) from unpredictable situations.

Each of the defenses consists of special means to avoid failure. Each of them provides certain protection, however, none of them can provide full protection.
