Mode setting

Modes are controlled manually, by the operators. An operator may set the operational mode either explicitly or implicitly:

Explicit mode setting

The mode is explicit if the system design includes a means for the operator to select the mode from a mode set.

Methods for mode setting

Example

An On-Off switch is used to operate an engine.

Implicit mode setting

An implicit mode is one not represented in the specification documents. Often, it is implied from the operator's activity.

Example

Display dependent on implicit mode ( shared display ). The mode is implied by the sequence of buttons activated beforehand.
