A typical barrier to problem solving is the absence of information about the problem and its sources (

The design should include special means to ensure that the
operators have all the information required for understanding the
situation and for recovery, and that the information is
presented in a way that ensures fast and reliable
perception.
Situational information is based on sensors installed at the machine. It is obtained by compressing the values of continuous variables (sensory measurements and hazard indicators) to states, which are significant to the operator's decision making.
Operational information consists of the information the operators need to understand how to handle the situation
