This chart presents resilience assurance  in form of a virtual state machine.

Resilience states

Proactive resilience assurance is achieved by defining five defenses :

• Firewalls : hazard prevention and escalation prevention
• Facilitators : alarming about a hazard , rescue from unpredictable situations, and recovery from exceptional situations.

Each of the defenses consists of special means to avoid failure. Each of them provides certain protection, however, none of them can guarantee full protection.
