Implementation

The exception detector is a special implementation of the Usability Problem Indicator (UPI) used to identify instances of negative user experience ( reference ...). A problem is defined here as an instance of operating outside of the normal scope.

The following example ... demonstrates a way to indicate the system situation. The exception detector comprises several sub units, one of them is the situation analyzer. The situation analyzer checks if the situation is in the scope of normal operation. If it is not in the scope, this means that the situation is exceptional, and the information about it is sent to the display unit.

In the example, the normal scope is defined by limits of the temperature range. For example, the limits can define:

The limits defining the normal scope are stored in the situation knowledge base, in the section defining normal operation.
