A trend is the rate of change of a continuous variable. trend data correspond to measurements or calculated parameters.

Trend data are used by the operators for monitoring the system behavior, in supervision and in problem solving.

Application examples

• Medical monitors should warn on exceptional values of the patient parameters, such body temperature, heart pulse, oxygen level etc.
• Financial measures, such as of sales, expenses, website traffics, may be used to alert about financial hazards.
