State set

Definition

This is the set of all values of a of a discrete state state variable. These are the states that take part in a state machine ( Wiki ) and represented in a state diagram ( Wiki ).

Example

The primary state set of almost all electrical equipment is the standard operational (On, Off) state set, as in a simple reactive system ...

Alarming state sets

An alarm ing state set is derived from alarm thresholds.

Examples

The temperature of a system unit may be defined as {Cold, Hot, Extremely hot}. The transition between the states is defined by the thresholds between Cold and Hot, and between Hot and Extremely hot. When changing from can compute the expected time to reach the the threshold for Extremely hot. Assuming the we want to avoid the Extremely hot state, the system is now under hazard and the expected time is regarded as grace time, in which the operators can look for ways to protect from this hazard.

The pressure in a container during production may be {Extremely Cold, Cold, Regular, Hot, Extremely Hot}. In this example, the Cold and Hot states are considered as Under hazard.
