The active state

By definition of a state set, the states represent partitioning of a variable space. This means that at each moment, exactly one of the states represent the actual values of the variables in the variable space.

Example

Suppose that the liquid in a container has three states: normal, hot and cold, defined by the temperature as follows:

Then, if the measured temperature is 45 degrees, the active state is Hot.
