The questions about visual coherence are:
What characterizes the situations in which uniformity is more important than distinctiveness and vice versa?
How do we set the screen and control properties to benefit from the uniformity and distinctiveness while avoiding their limitations?
Uniformity and distinction contradict each other. Uniformity not only implies ease of learning, but also implies possible screen recognition errors. Distinctiveness implies better screen recognition but with learning difficulties.
The dilemma is how to integrate uniformity and distinctiveness to enable interruptions during crises while permitting seamless operation during regular situations.
