Transition time

This parameter is applicable to events that modify the machine state. It may be used to detect instances of component malfunctions.

Definition

Transition time is the  time it takes to change the machine state when responding to events.

Method

The designers may define normal transition time, by defining thresholds, based on statistics, and store them in the rule knowledge base.

These thresholds can be set automatically, by statistics of prior measurements.

Example

The operator turns on an on-off switch, to start running an engine. When ready, the engine state changes from Starting to Running.

The functional unit can send events about the starting and running of the engine.
