Automation problems are sometimes attributed to wrong setting of the operational parameters. For example few Segway accidents are attributed to this kind of problem.

Definition

Operational parameters are ( discrete or continuous) variables that affect the system behavior during its operation .

Resilience parameters

Resilience parameters are parameters associated with system attributes, intended to optimize the response to hazards.

Examples

• Transition time limits: lower and upper limits, defining normal values for the time it takes to change the machine state when responding to events
• Alarm thresholds: low and high limits of sensory data, used to instigate warning and alarms
• Critical recovery time: used to decide about the machine taking the control, overriding the operator commands.
