Information display is about the type and amount of situational information that should be displayed to the operators.

Primarily, it is about when to display all relevant information ( visual search to ensure situation awareness, or to show only the most important information to facilitate the user orientation ( interactive search ).

Guidelines

• All-at-once ... arrangement is suitable for information used frequently (such as control data), enabling fast perception, since the operators have sufficient opportunities to learn their location on screen
• Drill-down ... arrangement is suitable for information used rarely (such as setup data), enabling safe perception, since the operators are not expected to learn their location on screen.
