Feature representation

Feature representation is the way the features are represented to the operators on the (visual and audio) displays.

Textual description enables providing essential information to the operators, so that they can learn about the use of the feature, attributes, options, variations, etc.
Iconic representation enables at a glance perception of the feature, following practice.

Icons may encompass cues about the features. The cues may be about the use of the feature, the situation, the risk level etc (see cue design ).

Icons may be designed to be distinctive or look the same, according to the situation. (see perception coherence ... ).
