Features for fault detection

Special add-ons, used for fault detection, include:

• Sensors are required to capture extreme values of operational parameters, such as temperature
• A special unit, rules applying to the functional unit
• Special thresholds are defined for measurements and for computed variables, are stored in the activity database, enabling structured alarm generation.
• Special alarms and fault indicators are required to notify the operators about exceptional situations
• Special algorithms and simulators are required for early fault recognition.

Example

At design time, we define thresholds applicable to sensor measurements. These thresholds define are stored in the activity database, and the define the conditions for generating warnings and alarms.

At runtime, the functional unit sends information about the measurements to the computes resilience variables, and compares the values to the thresholds.

Also, the trends in the measurements, and sends indication about the grace time. In addition, the  grace time can be used to automatically switch the control to the machine, when it is about to reach the recovery time .
