Typically, UI requirements documents specify that the
system
state is displayed at the
bottom of the interaction screen. They do not distinguish between important
states, that require special
attention by the
operators, and regular indication
of the state. They do not specify the attributes of the text display, and they
leave the details for the designer. However, the designer might not be aware of
the significance of the various
states to the
operators.
As a result, in many
cases, the operators do not notice the changes in the
system
state.
Status bars may be used to display information not related to the task in focus
The information on the status bar (icons, text) should flash on changes
Assuming that the operator
s is required to be aware of changes, they should be enforced to stop the flashing by an action (such as clicking on the flashing item).
