Information confusion

If the information displayed on screen depends on the scenario or the situation, then the situation perception is error prone.

Display sharing

The confusion is due to overloading a display with several data items.

Therefore, to prevent confusion of a particular variable, a display should be allocated to this variable, and should not be shared with other variables.

If a display unit should be used for displaying various variables, then specific means should be designed to enable the operators to recognize the variable being displayed .

For example

if a remote control of an air conditioning unit displays both the target and the current temperatures using a shared display, then the operator might confuse the reading of the target temperature with the reading of the current temperature.
