Alarm control
The alarm control unit is part of the
exception handler, in charge of informing the
operators about
risky
situations.
Alarm control is a set of procedures used for implementing the
transition from hazard
identification to
alarm.
Typical alarm management activities include:
- Troubleshooting, triggered by the generation of new
hazards. The
unit analyzes the
hazard, identifies potential sources and
risks due to the
exception, controls safe-mode operation, and adds
threat attributes
- Indication about potential transition from
normal operation to
the alarm
situation
- Alerting about actual transition from
normal operation to exceptional
situation
- Operator reaction, either confirming perceiving the
alarm, or muting it
- Indication about the
system being in an
exceptional situation, following
Advance notices are required to prevent
surprise,
to enable the operators prepare for the
threat.
