This chart illustrates the shifting of the system control in exceptional and unexpected conditions to supervision.
- In Routine operation, the
Operators are familiar with the operational procedures, and they are responsible to choose
the proper operational parameters and invoke the proper actions.
- In exceptional conditions, the
operators
are not familiar with all the details of the operational procedures, and are not aware of the significance of invoking the actions they use in. Therefore, the
responsibility should shift to the machine.
- If the system is under hazard, in troubleshooting, then this means that the machine was not able to solve the problem. Therefore, it is the operators who should be in control
- Under stress (in emergency), the
operators
are liable to invoke actions they use in routine operation (due to the effect of automation addiction), even if they are not adequate for the unexpected
situation.
