Alarm coding requirements
The requirements from the
alarms are:
- They should be audible
- They should alert, shifting the
operator's
attention to upcoming risks
- The level of operator
alert should correspond to the
risks level and the
grace time (as demonstrated in the chart on the left).
- They should encode information hinting about the desired
operator's response.
Alarm attributes
Alarm attributes related to the risks level (
Harel, 2006 ):
- Volume - higher volume indicates higher emergency
- Pitch - higher pitch indicates higher emergency
- Frequency - high frequency indicates higher emergency
